Slate is one of the heaviest and most durable substances known to man. The slate used for these table tops is Portuguese. It is cleaved whole and left with a natural, rippled finish.
Oak Legs and Side Rails
Oak is renowned for its strength, density and resistance to fungal and insect attack. The oak used in this table is European and unfinished to allow its character to develop.
Time required: 10 minutes
People required: 2 plus a forklift
Assembly of our slate tables is very simple. Each leg is rebated to house the joints on the rails, (see accompanying picture). These simply slot together and should be tapped home using a timber mallet or rubber/hide hammer with striking block.
The slate the needs to be lifted onto the legs. We recommend that this is done with a forklift in the following manner:
- Place two bearers across the oak rails
- Using strops, lower the slate onto the bearers
- Using the forks, lift one end of the slate and remove the bearer
- Using the forks on just the edge, lift the slate at the other end and remove the bearer
Please note: this slate is extremely heavy.
We can deliver these tables using our crane if required.
The elements will have very little effect on the slate. The legs and side rail will weather over time and silver. If you wish to maintain the appearance of the oak, we recommend it is treated with Danish Oil.
If you need to move your table at a later date, you may need to firmly tap the rails out from the legs, particularly if the joints have expanded. Again, we strongly recommend that you use a timber mallet or rubber/hide hammer with a striking block.
These tables are also available with the following leg heights:
300mm - £585
600mm - £715
